some bear information from andy...
lastly, make sure you guys take REALLY GOOD CARE to keep your trash consolidated. there are going to be bears where you guys are coming and if they smell ANYTHING w/ a scent (be it food, toothpaste, shampoo, etc) they will try to get it, and they will tear the doors off of your car to do so. and if that does happen, you'll not only have a long ride with some new air conditioning installed in your van, and a possible large fine waiting for you at the rental place, but you will also given a hefty fine by the NPS for leaving something in your car. people like me that work for the park don't like having to kill wildlife and if a bear breaks into a car, that is what will happen. i know it'll be hard to keep track of all the stuff with a big group like you guys, but after every fast food stop and whatnot make sure that everything gets put in a trash bag, and as soon as you get to the park make the first thing you do be putting all the stuff with a scent in a bear box which are located at each site. that said, it might be a good idea to put all your toiletries and other scented stuff in one place so you don't all have to dig through your bags forever to find each person's stuff to put in a bear box.
if anyone has the new gorillaz cd it would be swell if you brought it.
i have been itching to hear it...
seriously, i have been wearing oven mitts all day. har har har

sorry to bother everyone with more silly questions.
so i know someone told me the make of the van we are renting but i don't bother to learn all that stuff and so what i want to know is if the van is only an 8 passanger van or if it is like a 12 or 16 passenger van or some such business. i know we will have limited space, but exactly how limited?
also jessica had a good idea of bringing sandwhiches. i like that idea becuase i love sandwhiches and i would marry them only i don't like all the emotional baggage tht comes along with it. anyways, should we all just plan on going shopping together once we get to kristen's and karun's place or should we make up lists of what people should bring along?
well, i dunno, just trying to think of things for the trip. if everything is all figured out then let me know and i will just shutup.
see you all soon.

we are brining 12 plates and 8 bowls that are washable, and some dish rags. We need cups, so does anyone have any?
As for cooking, we have that hanging grill thingy, but if anyone has a portable grill, we should take that along as well.
Does anyone have cooking pots and pans for camping? (I remember reading that Jessica had some cooking stuff, but I do not know if that was included)
should we all bring a regular sized coat for cold weather, or is there going to be enough room?
What about laundry detergent, are we just going to buy one for the group when we need it?
What about toilet paper and/or facial tissue?
If we decide to go to Sequoia, we should bring car sickness pills. I do not get car sick, but I hear that the high elevations mess with some people.
just trying to be helpful. Current Mood: devious

just a few questions
When are we meeting? Can someone give me GOOD directions so that I do not get lost? Who's all driving? do we have the van rented? do we have reservations at a camp ground?
I'm just trying to figure things out.
I have been checking on comments, and I know of all the drama thats been going on, but I would like to know a finalized list of who is all going. I haven't said anything about the resent happenings on LJ and I am not going to, I just want everyone to know that I am excited to go to California and visit my
ex-roommate not matter what is going on, but I am a worry-wort when it comes to details on planing a trip (it's a flaw). So please, let me know what is going on.
Do we need flashlights, a med-kit, some sort of chopping device, or any cooking stuff?
What time are we planning on leaving? Current Mood: shakes the cat
where i'll be
so i guess that my group is going to be staying in a fire dorm at the beginning of the month, then moving to the lewis creek camp later on. not sure if we'll be staying there for the whole week or if we'll be moving while you guys or still out there? did anybody have a campsite booked already or what? if not i'll find out if you'll be able to stay with me at the fire housing, and if that doesn't work, i guess maybe the best bet would be to try and stay at the sentinel campgrounds as that seems to be the closest place to the fire dorm housing. see you guys soon!

Tentsssss and other stuff.
Sorry for not being available and joining late and all, but I just got back from Phoenix. Ah I miss the sun.
On the tent issue, I checked with Andy to make sure and he does have two tents already there in CA. I don't have to bring the big one if everyone is going to bring others, but just plan on the extra expenses because we can only have one tent per site. Not to mention that we need to keep in mind packing conservatively. Someone mentioned "monster van" (it has 4 sq ft I think)...but remember that there will be 8 of us to fit inside for alot of hours and that the more space we have, the better, no matter how we look at it. Less weight will also save on gas. (So if we could all drop about 10 lbs in the next two weeks, that would be great...ja ja ja).
On the meeting for the day - The plan is to meet here at "Kristen and Karun's place". The van is here at the airport about 15 minutes from my apt. We are scheduled to pick it up at 5pm, we'll bring it back here, pack it up and take off. I figure we'll pack, eat, pee, and be off. That way it will be cool, near dark for the people who will need to sleep for the overnight shift, and less traffic. I unfortunately had to bargain for my vacation so I have to work until 3pm that day, but there will be arrangements for my apartment to be available. I hope that everyone will try to be there by 3 or so because we'll need to arrange and survey the stuff that needs to be packed and one last go over of things that we have/need.
The car top thing, are Markio and Jennn bringing that here? Just making sure.
I'm putting together a first aid kit that will include bandaids, hydrocortisone, immodium, etc.
On another note of consolidation...
Because there will be so many days and so little room for stuff, a good idea may be for us to pack about half and plan on making a laundry stop, either as one of our longer stops on the drive or in CA, before we leave to come back. Also, if its possible, maybe we could share some of the other stuff, like, bring one regular size bottle of shampoo/conditioner (or two, one for boys and one for girls or something) and toothpaste or something, just because I know that I'll have to have something bigger than one travel size for 10 days, and so will the rest of you. (ahem, jessica, ;) ) Anyway, just a thought, let me know.
Oh and........13 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so we have coolers taken care of, care of terry.
kristen has an 8 person tent and i guess only one per site so theres that.
mark and i will still bring are small one just in case, we will hide it behind the bigger tent or maybe we will just set it up in the middle of the bigger tent, if it is cold.
so we have hot dogs and ketchup and mustard care of terry as well. and more water. and juices.
and think jessica's idea of bringing sandwhiches is a good idea. i like sandwhiches, but only with a regular amount of lettuce.
speaking of which, are we driving straight out or are we stopping places?
also, where are we camping?
what kind of a van did we reserve?
does anyone know how long of a drive this is going to be?
i was thinking of bringing just some cheap plates and cups and silverware that we can wash instead of paper and plastic crap. if you guys prefer the throw away kind let me know and i won't bring the other stuff. or let me know if i should bring the other stuff, or if anyone has any or whatever.
i saw tables cloths for a dollar at target, should i pick one up?
my parents have a little camp fire grill thing, its a post that sticks into the ground next to the pit to suspend the grill face over the fire, should i bring this?
the more you know

we have garbage bags.
also the car top carrier thing is not water proof.
so whatever we are putting in there, we should also put in containers that are water proof.
garbage bags will probably work i suppose.
but bring your own for that.
we learned this whole car top carrier not being water proof thing the hard way. my family and i went camping and the place we went to, when we got there, it was raining. not just raining, but tornados and crap. the only place open and with electricity was a crappy little diner who was short staffed cos people didn't show up. after the storm calmed we set up out tents in puddles. luckily we were camping at the only campground i have ever been to with laundry facilities. wet sleeping bags suck ass.
so how is this dilly yo yo going to go?
we are meeting at kristen and karuns?
maybe it is to soon to think about that.
but what should we be thinking about? Current Mood: stuffed up
|Thursday, May 12th, 2005|
mark and i picked up a bunch of water while it was on sale at meijer.
something like 72 bottles
also i have some little tubs we can use for washing dishes or putting pretty leaves in, whatever proves to be more useful.
also i have some tonka iron thingies, mmmmmmm.
also we have a tent we can bring if we need it. but it is just a small two person one.
don't forget i have a car top carrier that won't scratch roofies.
are we traveling in a van or a camper or what? i don't remember.
let me know if there is anything i can do to help or whatever.
oh oh, and add yourselves to this community so i am not just talking to myself.
